Intro - Gold in Archeage is the fundamental way you get better gear, better land, and better bells and whistles. Almost everything in the game could be gotten for free, BUT... it could take you weeks or even months to get some of these things where a bunch of gold in your pocket gets it immediately. the number of ways to make gold are astronomical, I'm going to go over what I know about and point to some resources that can help. In general, if you have the ability to multi-box, a second account - even a free one - is going to help a ton.
Labor is the key to most of your money making. No labor usually translates into No income. There are lots of "labor sucks" in this game. I'll tell you one right off the bat... loot dropped jewelry of the variety like "shroudmaster's earring". It's maybe 20-50 labor for a piece of crap Jewelry that isn't worth 25 silver. Toss them without opening them. Trust me there are WAY better jewelries in the game than something that gives 4 strength, 3 stamina and 2 spirit. (Library jewelry drops are good though, they can be worn or sold) Plan to get the free warrior medal necklace from the place where hero calls take you.
You want to be making like 2-3 silver per labor point at least (or 1 gold per 33-50 labor points). People shoot for 10silver per labor and can do it.
================================================================================================
For patrons (see EU account below, you can theoretically get free patron if you make enough gold for 2 apex or so a month)
Larceny - Larceny is a proficiency in the game and if you get good at it, it can pay off. Larceny comes from opening coin purses that mobs drop. The higher your Larceny is, the less labor it takes and faster it is to open purses. Gold, archeum, luna, and gear all drop in purses and can be sold. In general, people that use larceny as their main money maker, have a build that can A. Kick ass at multiple mobs at once (3-6 mobs) B. Conserve mana C. conserve health. Using pots to mob farm for gold isn't the way it's done. Witchcraft has free mana (play dead and #8 passive) and free health (enervate then mudhand). Auramancy has free mana (meditate) and can implode many mobs at you. Battlerage and Sorcery are the two main AOE damage dealers. I like Hex Warden as a melee AOE purse farmer. If you're magic build, you're usually one of three AoE purse farmer classes: Arcanist (Sorcery/Witchcraft/Auramancy) and Demonologist (Sorcery/Witchcraft/Occultism) are most common. Revenant (Sorcery/Occultism/Auramancy). Arcanist is the best mobility, damage mitigation, and mana regen you can have as an effective AoE farmer, Revenant does the most damage but no self heal.
Trade Runs - Trade runs are the activity of making trade packs at a specialty bench (marked on maps in area's that have them) and taking them across regions to gold traders or across the sea for resources or guilda. Resources can be sold for good gold or used to craft higher end oils and dyes. In general, the further you take a pack the more you get in return.
For land runs you need the donkey at level 30 (blue salt merchants near Anvilton). Then you want to work your way up to a farm cart, then farm wagon (can be upgraded to hauler or super hauler with credits that you can buy with gold or cash), the race car is ALOT of work, but it makes trade runs fun and fast!
For sea runs you can start with the 50 guilda clipper from Mirage isle, outfit it with a crest storage pack on the front instead of the harpoon, and take 2 packs at a time over sea. Definitely the safest sea run. Merchant ships for 400 guilda can take alot more packs, but it's slow and subject to extreme piracy. Always have like 4 friends on a full merch run. Halcyona to the east regions (villanelle/Solis) seems to be the safest sea runs.

Crafting - ArcheAge has a huge and diverse crafting system that really appeals to the sandbox crowd. Crafting for money can make you the most money in the game, but also takes a lot of organization and time and patience. There is way too much for me to know about or go into. I have been and still do craft oils and polishes that other people use for crafting. It's very lucritive. You can craft things as minor as combined feed to make money. Sturdy ingots. Basic obsidian weapons. OBSIDIAN FLUTES/LUTES are as easy to make as weapons and go for about 100g more each. They have always been in demand. Lunagems and lunafrosts. Books, food. Many of these take mats that you'll need to farm, so that means owning land or illegal farming in isolated places of the wilderness.
Harvesting - You can straight up find a place that grows alot of trees, apples, lemons, avacados, sheep, ore veins, etc and just grab it from the wild for free just spending labor. Find what sells for good profit (stone and gold ingots from mining makes bank for just grabbing stuff from the wild) so I should mention mining.
Mining - mining is such an easy way to make reliable money that people make EU alts to do it to buy patron. (you can use your NA account to log into EU servers and have two free character slots AND the labor pool is totally separate!). Raw Stone, Stone turned to brick, random gems, gold and sometimes archeum ingots makes lots of easy gold coin. New Players should be doing this before the trade runs just to get some spending/saving cash flowing. great places to mine Halao Hallow in Solis and Anvilton in tigerspine. (in west Dewstone is fine). I wouldn't spend labor to turn iron, copper, silver ore into ingots unless you have labor to burn and just want the XP. Coin to labor ratio is low on these ingots.
Stealing stuff - Stealing trade packs is a huge part of this game. The whole pirate faction make's their living off of it.
The easy way - find all the zones that have a specialty bench in an area that cycles to conflict/war. Port near it, ride your horse around and look for packs laying on the ground. Someone attacked someone with a full cart and couldn't carry them all off. I see it all the time. Get your donkey or car/wagon and get them to a peace zone with a gold trader. Free gold for about 70 or less labor per pack.
The less easy way - wait around by very popular spec benches in conflict zones (HELLSWAMP). Wait for a red to make some packs, then gank him when he's a bit away from the spec bench so you're not easily seen. Donkey/wagon packs into halc and take your boat across the sea with them.
The fun (pvp) way - riding around on someone's merchant ship with a bunch of friends looking for fishing boats or merchant ships with packs on the radar and ganking them. People advertise "sea raids" in faction often, just X up, and this is something a few of us in this guild want to do more often.
FISHING! - (almost forgot this) two types, worm fishing on a river or beach you get random fish, 100 or 20 or 4 of some plus some blue wedge turn into Dawns Lake Essense. Be prepared to ahve over 20 empty slots in your inventory and go take a nap. Great way to level a newb and level fishing for the next REAL fishing endeavor...
Ocean fishing with lures. Get yourself or a friend with a fishing boat. Make sure you got plenty of labor and a fishing proeff maybe upwards of 30-50k or more. Get a good fishing rod and lure for your level of proefficiency, and above all... don't do this alone. Pirates and purples look for fishing boats all day and it's way too easy to get ganked on a boat that has no offense or defense.
=====================================================================================
For non-patron - free to play
Labor issues. You only earn a max 2000 labor, you earn it slow, and only when logged in. AND you can't have land to have a bed to regain some, but there is at least one community bed on east faction I believe. I tell most folks if you can stay logged in in Mirage Isle while you are AFK at work or asleep, you'll have a BUTTLOAD more labor to work with. Then you can do the things above. Stealing packs will be the most money for least labor at around 10silver per labor. If you wanna farm, you'll have to do it out in the wild. I know F2P folks that have made BANK by religiously building/conserving labor and illegal farming. F2Pers should really have an EU alt. See below.
======================================================================================
EU Alts
Ask in guild who's got an EU alt and where and why they like it. I like Eanna because the Apex is 800gold which is manageable, its a low enough population server that I can get land if I want, there aren't people fighting me for the same resources, but popular enough that my shit sells on auction almost all the time. Make a new character and I suggest make them in a class that can kick butt (sorcery or battle rage) + are really fast (shadowplay or auramancy) + can self heal (vitalism or witchcraft) and can get free mana (witchcraft or auramancy). Since witchcraft can both self heal and free mana it makes the choice easier:
(sorcery or battle rage) + (shadowplay or auramancy) + witch.
Why? Because getting around fast is nice when you are trying to make use of your time. Self healing and self mana means pots you don't have to buy and we're trying to make a strict profit. and being able to kick ass never sucks and you can mob farm if you want for purses for larceny gold if mining isn't your thing.
Everyone else, mine in Halo Hallow. turn the stone to brick (in general), turn gold ore into ingots, leave the gems, silver, and copper alone and sell it all on AH.
Don't get fooled by the jackass that sold one brick on the AH for 1 silver, trying to screw you with the autopricing so his bot can grab up free stones. Look at what the price for 100 is and base your price per unit off that. 100 bricks should net 30gold. 1 gold ingot should net 2.5+ gold. 1000 iron ore should net around 15gold.
Remember EU alts have their very own labor pool. Every 38-40 hours you log in there are 5000 free labor waiting for you which you can turn in 100gold. At 800 gold buy an Apex. Save up for 2 if you want to buy free patron that way which counts on your NA accounts! Turn them into credits if you want the gold on your NA account. Each Apex gets 1200 credits. Thats enough to sell things from the credit shop like TAXES (huge money maker) or regrade gems. It will translate into at least 400 gold for selling regrade gems, to upwards of 1000 just selling taxes.
Also remember you can sell guilda/merit/and LOYALTY which is also a separate pool for extra gold!!! yay! see below please
===============================================================================================
Random free gold:
selling guilda (or items bought with guilda actually):
In the early levels, with the green quests you can make alot of guilda, like at least one per lvl. After lvl 30 there are dailies you can do for up to 12 a day? The more you save up and the more expensive design you buy, the more gold per guilda you can get. IE, a 50 guilda clipper design can sell for around 50gold, while a 400 guilda merchant ship design can sell for 1800. that's a difference of 1gold/guilda to over 3.5gold/guilda.
selling loyalty (or items bought with guilda actually):
you can buy rumbling archeum trees for 35 loyalty (which a patron gets in less than a week) and outright sell them for 60gold-ish, or take a 1::10 shot of planting it and it turning into a TS tree worth around 300+ gold. This is also a great way to get TS trees for your new cart/wagon/boat. You can save more and get the Astral gems (strength probably sells best), they cost 65 loyalty and general bring in 200+ gold. Miraculous gems for 150 loyalty are worth 400 gold or more? Look in the award shop and see how much some of these things sell for on AH.
selling merit - now with the merit dailies, you can get tons and profit. You can get rumbling archeum trees as above along with other stuff. Do the merit dailies, open your merit tab and look at the donezs of things that get you merit, like shoot 10 arrows, drink a potion, craft an ingot... almost anything gets you merit at least the first time you do it, so DO EVERYTHING at least once!
Selling vocation (the items bought with it): Some of my toons havve no use for vocation at all, they don't need lures and they don't need shatigon's blessing. Good news is, everyone else does and these things sell nice on the AH. You get vocation from farming/gathering/mining etc and if you never use it, 2000 vocation should get an easy 15 or more gold.
