I was thinking of rolling a bard because they help a ton and as far as I know, we only have Alegrean. He's not always where we are fighting, and he also does heals which means he's not barding when he's healing.
It's not my style to make a TRUE bard which is tomb warden (song/def/aura). Because all these cats do is sing and stay alive. I need to kill, so that only leaves adding in Battlerage, Sorcery, or maybe archery or Shadowplay.
Dawncaller (Bat/Def/Song) has a mix of fighting/tanky/singing and should be almost as sturdy as a paladin. For the small skirmishes we often do, they can be your average battlerager, and in 5v5 and up can switch over to singing for them extra boosts. This class can 1v1 ok. The one I rolled here is a raid v raid Dawncaller. (terrifying roar can be replaces for well used 6th BR passive, fortress can be replaced for imprison)

Bloodthrall (Bat/Vit/Song) though not as sturdy seems way more interesting is it can fight/heal/sing. Might be too much to handle, but versatility is there. Vitalism has skewer and whirlwind blessing which are fabulous in group pvp. 1v1 as a bloodthrall probably sucks. Crap mobility, crap defense.
Raid v Raid version there is no 1v1 version cause it's pointless, roll something else.

Ebonsong (Arch/Shad/Song)
Heavier bard: archeagedatabase.net/us/calc/403662
SWEET middle bard (raid) archeagedatabase.net/us/calc/403765
song utility : archeagedatabase.net/us/calc/403679

Generally, Songcraft tree builds are:
- Zeal build (11+ points, for the Zeal passive to support your magic/heal crits - unlikely for ebonsong)
- Bard build (8+ points for Hold the note and 22m passive, sits back and plays songs unless needed to fight)
- Physical utility build (3-6 points, uses songcraft for burst buffs and combat utility)
The most common setup for the utility build includes at least:
- Startling Strain: slow projectile magic stun, reduces your cast time -20% on contact
- Bloody Chantey: Increasing skill damage and attack speed, maxes out at 0 seconds before it runs out. Use it before a heavy burst or a cast time move for best results. For Song-archer, watch your Snipe and Concussive Arrow damage in the tooltips as it starts to end. Also adds on top of Float's skill damage boosts, if you're into that. If you use this more than once per fight, you'll eat up a lot of MP, unfortunately.
- Alarm Call: Stun break, sleep prevention.
After that are basically other utility skills of your choice:
- Quickstep: Mounts love it. Freerunner + Quickstep + Shadowstep = 3 seconds of amazing run speed.
- Hummingbird Ditty: If your party doesn't otherwise have it, and you're all about that Deadeye/Concussive/Snipe life, this helps.
- Critical Discord: 3 second fear vs charmed targets, can buy you cast time.
- Bulwark Ballad: Charm effect halves their defense (applied after other defense debuffs, but before your gear's def penetration) - archers paired with songcrafters love this even if they didn't know that aspect, but if you're applying it yourself, you won't be able to take too much advantage of it cause of distance.
- Dissonance: Reduces their cast time/ skill damage - the attack speed/cast debuffs stack on top of Throw Dagger.
- Ode to Recovery: slow heal over time, useful in Sea of Graves or raid situations
- Healing Hymn: Spike heal - amazing with 1 other person near you (though solo with a pet it might be worse at 2.9), otherwise erratic bounces.
